I was born in Mineola and raised in Brookhaven, so I am a born and raised Long Islander. So when I hear about Long Island seceding from New York and becoming its own state, I am for it. Though now I have been living in Florida since 2001, I still consider myself a Long Islander over anything else.
When I overheard that the representative of Suffolk County has called for a study and referendum to be held on the issue of Long Island statehood, I saw myself cheering inside. In more than one way, I believe Long Island should become its own state.

I was born in Long Island in 1989 and I was raised and lived there until 2001. Now living in Florida, I now continue to think how much better it was living there. Today I talk about how I want to move back to New York and calling myself a New Yorker, but what hasn't crossed my mind in a while is that I am a Long Islander first.
I have always thought that Long Island is quite different from New York and should be its own state. Well my dream has been half granted. In mid 2009 (unknown to me), the representative of Suffolk County (my homecountry) called for a study and referendum to be held in the seceding of Long Island (primarily Suffolk and Nassau Counties) from New York and becoming the 51st state.

I was born in Mineola on December 26, 1989. I was raised in Holbrook, and lived there until November 2001. Though I now live in Florida, I still consider myself a Long Islander before any other. I guess I have island pride, but I love Long Island more than New York or NYC.
